Research across many cultures continues to identify the important contribution that agency and self-efficacy make to individual and societal wellbeing. Agency is the capacity and opportunity to make purposeful choices. Self-efficacy is the belief that choices can lead to action and make a difference personally, and for societal change. The Victorian government's 'Amplify' document and the increased emphasis on agency in the International Baccalaureate programmes support the importance of voice, choice and ownership in all facets of learning through the written, taught and assessed curriculum. Placing agency at the heart of learning, frames wellbeing as the responsibility of all members of the learning community.
