When flying, passengers are always advised to apply their own oxygen mask before assisting other passengers. The reason being we are no use in the service of others if incapacitated ourselves. This can easily be applied to our role as educators, however it is so often forgotten. Teachers continue to give & give & give and are often running on nearly empty, so how can we then ensure we are giving our best when functioning close to our worst?
This presentation will investigate teacher burnout, overwhelm and stress and offer simple and practical tools for both educators and executive to implement to take care of staff wellbeing. The health of our staff must become a priority for ensure the best learning environment for our students.

Biography
Sarah is a classroom teacher & education consultant with a special interest in the mental wellbeing of both students & staff. In 2014, Sarah launched The Selfie Project as an initiative to build wellbeing literacy, centred around developing a strong Sense of Self and learning what to do when things fall apart. Since then The Selfie Project has delivered programs across the country to both students and staff, facilitating engaging & important conversations about mental wellbeing, creating space for personal growth & development & providing practical & tangible strategies to build each individual's Mental Health Toolkit.
