As the Australian School Library Association moves into its 51st year, ASLA continues to be a strong national voice supporting school libraries and staff who work in them across Australia
Executive Officer Judy Thompson will provide a background to ASLA’s current professional learning initiatives as well as future proposals for advocacy. With strong support from a national Board, ASLA is moving forward to a bright future of ensuring that school libraries across Australia are robust/well-resourced and staff are Equipped with the skills they need.

Biography
Judy Thompson joined the ASLA team in April, in the newly created role of Executive Officer. She will be supporting the Board with administrative tasks, professional learning activities, managing the membership database, social media and the ASLA website. In addition to those roles, Judy will work on advocacy for the profession.
She brings with her a wealth of experience as a Teacher Librarian, having worked for 16 years as Head of Information Services Faculty at Canberra Girls Grammar School. As well as the Library, the Faculty included the information technology curriculum, independent learning and interdisciplinary inquiry programs. Before that, Judy managed several Commonwealth Government departmental libraries, over 15 years. She has also worked in university libraries, and in the Commonwealth Parliamentary Library.
