Details

Teaching for Mastery is a responsive model of teaching that encapsulates best practices in terms of multiple approaches to conceptualising the same concept. Mastery learning stems from the work of Benjamin Bloom who considered how teachers might adapt the most powerful aspects of tutoring and individualised instruction to improve student learning in classrooms. This presentation speaks to what is happening in the teaching and learning process, for without a focus on teaching and learning approaches there will be little or no improvement in learning outcomes for schools. This workshop will include a clear articulation connecting the why and the how of Teaching for Mastery and will demonstrate, share, and reflect on a journey when implementing a Mastery approach model with students in Mathematics and English.
