Details

School refusal is different from truancy and is a serious issue and needs to be managed early to avoid long-term impacts for them and their family. School refusal can occur at all ages but has been found to occur more frequently during major changes in children’s lives such as beginning kindergarten or the transition from primary to high school. There is no single cause for school refusal. School refusal can also be a sign of a developing mental health problem, such as anxiety or depression. As educators it is important to have confidence that these behaviours can be resolved with appropriate support and time. This presentation will demonstrate how you can respond to the child’s school refusal and when to access external support services.
